VINCENNES, Ind. - Vincennes University students were honored at the end of the spring semester for their achievements during the 2011-12 academic year.
KNOX COUNTY
Clayton Cullen, Bruceville, is the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement in History Award. A History major, Cullen was a member of the Honor Society.
Lacey Lynn Ellerman, Oaktown, is the recipient of the Old National Bank Scholarship. A 2011 graduate of North Knox High School, Lacey is the daughter of Dana Wegehoff of Sandborn and Christopher Ellerman of Grayville, Ill. Lacey is majoring in Administrative Office Technology.
Anthony Wayne Elliott, Vincennes, is the recipient of the Old National Business Scholarship, Noble Sartor Memorial Scholarship, Steve Graham Memorial Scholarship, and the ABWA Old French Town Chapter Scholarship. A second-year Accounting major, he is married to Tina Elliott of Vincennes.
Misty Elliott, Oaktown, is the recipient of the Outstanding Graduating Vocal Music Major Award. She is transferring to St. Mary-of-the-Woods College to study Music Therapy.
Susan L. Gadberry, Bicknell, is the recipient of the Outstanding Administrative Office Technology Student Award. A 2012 Magna Cum Laude VU graduate, Susan is married to Mark Gadberry and is the daughter of Ron and Rita Clark of Bicknell. She is a 1987 graduate of North Knox High School.
Brittany Haywood, Vincennes, is the recipient of the Laura McCormick Memorial Scholarship. A freshman Nursing major, Brittany is a 2002 graduate of Northeast Dubois High School.
Rebecca Laskey, Vincennes, is the recipient of the Outstanding Freshman Vocal Music Major Award. She is the daughter of Jeff and Deanne Laskey of Vincennes.
Chelsea McCarthy, Vincennes, is the recipient of the Kopp Family Scholarship in Memory of Laura Nardine. She is a freshman Family and Consumer Sciences major.
Scott H. Morris, Vincennes, is the recipient of the William G. Galligan Scholarship. A General Studies major, Scott was recently admitted to the VU Nursing program.
Kaleigh Raney, Vincennes, is the recipient of the Outstanding Sophomore Achievement in Education-Bachelor Program. Kaleigh was cited for excelling in the classroom and being a role model for other students. A 2010 graduate of Lincoln High School, she is the daughter of Mark and Regina Raney. She is an Elementary Education/Special Education major.
Kara Ray, Vincennes, is the recipient of the Outstanding Senior Social Science and Performing Arts Division Award. She served as a mentor and tutor to other VU students, was president of the VU Friend's club, and was instrumental in the development of a new Social Work Club.
Breanna Roach, Vincennes, a freshman majoring in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine, is the recipient of the Toyota Leadership Scholarship and the Student Government Association Vice President’s Scholarship. Awards she had received previously include the Velma and Herbert Pepmeier Scholarship as well as scholarships from the Civitan and Rotary clubs and the VU Foundation. Breanna is the daughter of Kevin and Lauren Roach of Vincennes. A 2011 graduate of Lincoln High School, Breanna is a VU Ambassador and a member of the Student Government Association and the Campus Activities Board.
Rachel Shelton, Vincennes, is the recipient of the Hollis P. Leighly Award for Outstanding Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Award. She is a 2012 VU graduate.
Christy Dawn Thornton, Vincennes, is the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement in Social Work Award. A second-year student, Christy is a member of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and the VU Social Work Club, and she is a daycare provider at the YMCA. She and her husband Joshua have two children.
ILLINOIS - Lawrence County
Jaeleigh Decker, Lawrenceville, Ill., is the recipient of the Outstanding Agriculture Business Student Award. A 2011 graduate of Lawrenceville High School, Jaeleigh is the daughter of Gary and Julie Decker of Lawrenceville.
Andrea Lynn Potts, Lawrenceville, Ill., is the recipient of the Dr. Norbert Welsh Memorial Scholarship. A freshman Nursing major, she is the daughter of Jason and Vicki Potts of Lawrenceville. Andrea is a 2011 graduate of Lawrenceville High School.
Sabrina Ravellette, St. Francisville, Ill., is the recipient of the Outstanding Family and Consumer Sciences Student Award. She is a 2012 VU graduate.
OTHER COMMUNITIES
Travis Dunn, Coatsville, is the recipient of the Robert Fuller Scholarship. He earned his associate degree in Forestry and Conservation this spring and plans to major in Forestry at Purdue University this fall. He is a graduate of Cascade High School.
Allison M. Hormann, Decatur, is the recipient of the Brent C. Bierhaus Scholarship. She is a freshman majoring in the Office Administration Technology Program at VU. A 2011 graduate of Bellmont High School, she is the daughter of Scott and Hollie Hormann of Decatur.
Anthony Urbanski, Hebron, is the recipient of Outstanding Freshman Chemistry Award. He is majoring in Chemical Engineering. A 2011 graduate of Hebron High School, Anthony is the son of Ted and Patty Urbanski of Hebron.
Jacob Leddy, Indianapolis, is the recipient of the Outstanding Audio Recording Major Award. He is a 2012 VU graduate.
Steven Nelson, Jasper, is the recipient of the Outstanding Audio Recording Major Award. He is a 2012 VU graduate.
Diana Dee Hardisty, Linton, is the recipient of the Senior Education Award. She earned a baccalaureate degree in Special Education, Mild Intervention. A 1984 graduate of Linton-Stockton High School, Diana is the daughter of Willard and Doris Orman of Linton. Diana is married to Dale Hardisty.
Courtney Gokey, Loogootee, is the recipient of the Outstanding Freshman in Instrumental Music Award. He is a Music Education major.
Tyler K. Jones, Martinsville, is the recipient of the Robert L. Fuller Agriculture Scholarship and the Outstanding Second-Year Earth Sciences Major Award. He graduated with an associate degree in Agriculture/Plant Genetics and plans to transfer to Purdue University to complete a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture. A 2010 graduate of Monrovia High School, Tyler is the son of Brett and Robin Jones of Martinsville.
Matthew Anderson, Montgomery, graduated Summa Cum Laude with a baccalaureate degree in Education-Science. A 1996 graduate of Barr-Reeve High School, Matthew is married to Rachel Anderson.
Brandon J. Graber, Montgomery, is the recipient of the Mechanical Engineering Achievement Award. A 2010 graduate of Barr-Reeve High School, Brandon is the son of Sam and Karen Graber of Montgomery.
Allen Casson, Newburgh, is the recipient of the William Treese Scholarship. A graduate of Castle High School, Allen earned his associate degree in the VU/Purdue Agriculture program and plans to major in Agribusiness Management at the Purdue College of Agriculture this fall.
Jill Debord, Princeton, is the recipient of the Physics Achievement Award. A 1982 graduate of Princeton Community High School, Jill also holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Purdue University. She is the daughter of Sandra and Steve Nixon of Princeton and Charles and Patricia Debord of Evansville.
Katie McConnell, Rushville, is the recipient of the Outstanding Musical Theatre Major award.
Chad Buzzard, Wabash, is the recipient of the Student Government Association Treasurer Scholarship. Chad is a Law Enforcement major and president of the Campus Police Cadet Corps and treasurer of both the Student Government Association and the Nerf Club. A 2010 graduate of Northfield Jr./Sr. High School, he is the son of Andrea and Dan Schlemmer of Wabash and Doug and Margaret Buzzard of Huntington.
Hanna Mattingly, Washington, is the recipient of the Caroll R. Deem Memorial Scholarship. She is a freshman majoring in Interior Design. A 2011 graduate of Washington High School, Hanna is the daughter of Bert and Anita Mattingly of Washington.
Mary Anna McClure, Washington, is the recipient of the Outstanding Junior in the Bachelor’s Degree Education Program Award. A 2010 graduate of Washington High School, Mary is the daughter of Michael and Marcia McClure of Washington.
