Blackboard Collaborate Known Issues:

Linking a 'Films on Demand' for students off-campus:

In order for students to be able to access a Films on Demand video from VU database in Blackboard when not on campus, you must add and change the link.

Video tutorial creating a link to Films on Demand for Blackboard
(Please note that the video refers to "External Links".  In the new version of Blackboard these are called "Web Links")

  1. This is the first part of the code that you need to use, copy and place this in a word document or notepad:

    http://bb01.vinu.edu/webapps/blackboard/content/lib_url_databases.jsp?perma=

  2. Find the video you wish to use and copy the title or segment url from the box.
  3. Next you must encode that url, using a url or html encode/decoder found through a Google search on the web, such as http://meyerweb.com/eric/tools/dencoder/
  4. Next copy the newly encoded Films on Demand link and paste it to the end of the code in step 1, (right after perma=)
  5. Copy the whole string of code; this is the link you will use in Blackboard.
  6. In the Blackboard content area were you wish to place the link, select "external link" then paste the whole string of code into the url box, give it a name/ minutes and a description in the text box if you like, then be sure to check "open in new window", and submit.
  7. You should now have a direct link to your video that opens in a new window in Blackboard.
