Grants

Grants are money given to help students based on need and other eligibility factors. Grants do not have to be repaid. The amounts vary from year to year.  To be even considered for grants, you have to fill out your FAFSA each year. 

Federal Pell Grant
Up to $5,550 for 2012-2013 depending on financial need as determined by the EFC from your FAFSA.  To get the full amount, you have to be enrolled full-time, but even eligible part-time students get a partial grant.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
The amount varies based on exceptional need, Pell Grant eligibility, and the amount of money appropriated by Congress for the current budget year.

Frank O'Bannon Grant
State program to help with tuition for up to 15 credits. It is based on need. The amount of money you can receive varies each year depending on the dollars available and the number of students who apply.  Must be enrolled full-time.

Twenty-first Century Scholars Grant
Income-eligible Indiana 7th and 8th graders who enroll in the program and fulfill a pledge of good citizenship are promised the cost of four years of college tuition at any participating public college or university in Indiana.  Up to 15 credits of tuition are covered.  VU's per-credit capital improvement fee and course fees are not covered by this grant.

SSACI National Guard
State grant that covers up to 15 credits of certain tuition costs for eligible members of the Indiana Air and Army National Guard. To be eligible an applicant must be certified by both the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI) and the Indiana National Guard (ING) and attend a state funded college or university.
