COPE Student Support Services

Mission Statement
Cope Student Support Services provides a comprehensive range of student services to first generation, low income, or disabled students aimed at enhancing students’ academic, personal, financial, and social development, in order to increase their retention, graduation, and transfer to four-year colleges.

About Us
COPE Student Support Services (SSS) offers inclusive services to promote retention, graduation, and transfer to four-year institutions. Criteria for admission into this program requires that a student be either first generation (neither parent graduated from a 4-year university), meet income guidelines, or documented disability. COPE SSS provides academic support groups for students with hidden disabilities (i.e., learning disabilities, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders).

The program is based on a person centered planning model that includes:

  • academic support,
  • advising assistance with course selection,
  • personal counseling,
  • tutoring,
  • mentoring,
  • transfer assistance and campus visits to four-year institutions,
  • career counseling,
  • financial literacy,
  • and financial aid assistance with FAFSA, scholarships, etc.

The program offers workshops to all program participants on a variety of topics such as study skills (e.g., time management, note taking, test taking, organization), stress management, financial literacy, self-esteem, cover letters and resumes, and interview skills.

Applying
Students are accepted on the basis of:

  1. eligibility,
  2. potential success and need assessment,
  3. interview,
  4. personal statement paper,

Since this program is funded through a federal grant, no additional cost will be charged to the student. Early application to the program is encouraged since enrollment is limited.
