ETS is a Talent Search Program. Talent Search programs were created by the United States Congress in 1965 to help encourage qualified students to continue their education. ETS is funded 100% by the U.S. Department of Education in the amount of $379,019 for the 2012 – 2013 school year. This program is designed to assist 825 students in target schools in four Southwestern Indiana counties (Greene, Knox, Sullivan, and Vanderburgh) who wish to continue their studies beyond the high school level. The major goals of the program are to help program participants explore their college and career opportunities and upon high school graduation enter postsecondary education. ETS works with junior/middle school and high school students. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders work to achieve academic success and prepare for high school. Through workshops and individual meetings with ETS advisors and/or tutors, students get an important head start on learning about college and career opportunities. Junior/Middle school participants will have support and guidance from the program throughout their high school years. Ninth through twelfth grade participants take steps to prepare for college with the help of ETS staff.
All ETS SERVICES ARE WITHOUT COST
The Vincennes University Educational Talent Search program encourages qualified income eligible and/or first generation students to complete secondary school, re-enter secondary school, and undertake a program of postsecondary education. Educational Talent Search (ETS) increases educational opportunities by providing academic advising, career, college, and financial aid information.
ETS is committed to all participants to achieve their educational goals. Participants will be equipped with the necessary resources and skills which will enable them to: successfully meet the challenges of the 21st Century, make sound career decisions, and pursue postsecondary opportunities that will enable them to improve their quality of life and to contribute to society.
Educational Talent Search identifies and assists individuals from income eligible backgrounds and /or potential first generation students (neither parent has a four- year college degree) who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to the postsecondary school of their choice.
Educational Talent Search also serves students without high school diplomas by encouraging them to reenter the education system and complete their education. The goal of Educational Talent Search is to increase the number of youths from these backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in post secondary education institutions of their choice.
