All Students: Anytime between 8:00am and 8:00pm starting Thursday, August 15th and continuing through Sunday, August 18th. We do strongly encourage new students to move in on Thursday, August 15th so they are available to attend new student orientation on Friday, August 16th.

Meal Plans - Meal plans A and B can be changed the first week of classes. No meal plans can be decreased after the first week of classes.

Meal plans A & B can be increased at any time.
Meal plans with flex dollars (D, E, and F) cannot change plans after the first week of classes.

Private Room - Please add $1,383.00 per semester. A $400 prepayment must be made to be placed on list for possible private room assignment. Prepayment does not guarantee private room assignment.

Damage deposit $150 for all residence halls and 3rd Street Apartments. The damage deposit for the French Quarter is $475

Can I request a roommate?
Yes. However, the request must be mutual. Both individuals must request one another. While filling out your contract on line you will find an area where you can type your requested roommates name and identification number. The identification number is the A number the University assigned the student upon admissions. Also include the student's birth date (MM DD YYYY). Roommate requests are not guaranteed.

When do I find out where I am living and my roommate's name?
Room assignments and roommate information will be available in mid-July.

Do I have to have a meal plan?
Yes. All students that reside in a residence hall must be on a meal plan.

Do I have to live in a residence hall?
Yes. All first year students must reside on campus unless they are 21, married, a military veteran, or commuting from their parents home.

Are there rules and regulations for living in the residence Halls?

Are private rooms available?
Yes. An additional cost will apply each semester. See Costs for more details. Private rooms are assigned based upon date of payment of deposit/prepayment and availability. Rates are subject to change based on Room and Board rates set by Board of Trustees.

What size are the mattresses?
The mattresses are 36 x 80 or an extra-long twin. For several years Residence Hall Linens has provided our students and families with a convenient, affordable option to ensure you have sheets that will fit all of the beds on campus. What is in the room?
We furnish the bed, the dresser, desk, desk chair, trash can, curtains/blinds, drawer space, closet space, cable outlet, and internet.

Can I order linens?
Yes. VU partners with Residence Hall Linens. Visit their site or call 800.957.4338.

Are refrigerators allowed in the rooms?
Yes. If you are purchasing capacity may not exceed 4.4 cubic feet.

What should I do to stay safe on campus?
College can be an exciting time in your life. You are making new friends, learning new concepts and discovering a lot about yourself. However, it is very important to stay safe and understand that there can be some dangers on campus. Here are some tips for how you can protect yourself on campus and make sure you have a safe, enjoyable experience:

Make sure the door to your residence hall room is locked at all times. It is important to lock your door whether you are going to class, leaving for the weekend or just walking down the hall to the bathroom.
Be careful about posting personal information on social network websites (such as Facebook). Most college students engage in some type of social networking, but it is important to think twice about what you post. Keep private information private and be cautious of the photos you share. Use common sense if a stranger contacts you online and trust your instincts. If you feel threatened or uncomfortable during an online interaction, report the behavior and stop the dialogue.
Put emergency numbers in your cell phone. Know the phone numbers for the Campus Police, your Resident Assistant (RA) and other friends who you can trust if you find yourself in a bad situation. You should also be aware of the locations of the emergency phones throughout campus.
Always walk home with at least one other person after dark. Walking in a group makes you less of a target to an attacker. Try to walk in groups when going to classes, the dining hall or other places on campus. Make a plan before you go out for the night so that no one has to walk alone, even if just for a few feet.

Are laundry facilities available?
Yes -- all the halls have laundry facilitates.

Is there computer access in my room?
Each student room is also furnished with Internet access. Students must provide an ethernet cord to hook their computer up to the internet in their student room.

Is there storage for personal items?
All items must remain in your room.

Can freshmen have cars?
Yes -- you will need to get a parking sticker from Campus Police (5555) in order to park in the University's lots. Contact them for information.

What if my roommate and I do not get along?
If there is a roommate conflict please contact your residence hall coordinator so that they can assist you in resolving the problem. In some cases, a room change may be needed.

What happens if I cancel my Housing contract early?
A complete explanation of Cancellation, Termination and Withdrawal is listed in the Terms and Condition of Residency. Contracts cancelled before August 1st will be refunded the $150.00 Damage Deposit. Contracts cancelled between August 2nd and August 14th will be charged a $150 cancellation fee. Contracts cancelled August 15th or after will be assessed a $750.00 cancellation fee.

Roommate Requests

Room assignments will be available in mid-July.

Roommate requests must be mutual. Both individuals must request one another. For suites in Clark where 2 double rooms exist and 4 individuals share the suite/bathroom you may submit roommate requests for the entire suite. Please email the Housing Office with this information. Assignments are based upon availability and date contract is submitted and deposit is paid. Roommate requests are not guaranteed. Roommate requests received after July 1st may not be considered.

Vincennes University has partnered with Roomsurf a roommate matching service to assist students finding a roommate. Visit www.roomsurf.com to use this service. Students must then use the following passkey to access Roomsurf for Vincennes University: VUTrailblazer1801 (case sensitive).

Single Occupancy Requests

Students requesting a single room will be required to pay a $400.00 prepayment in addition to the $150 damage deposit at the time of filing their contract. Single rooms are an additional fee per semester over the student’s Room and Board charges.

Single rooms are assigned based upon date of payment of deposits/prepayments and availability.

Get to Know Your Roommate

To help you with this here are some good questions and topics to discuss together.

What are your interests/hobbies?
What major are you and what would you want to do ultimately with your career?
What kind of music do you like?
What kind of television shows, movies or games do you like?
What are your sleeping habits?
What are your cleaning habits (really clean, mix of messy and clean, really messy)?
How do you feel about guests in the room (of the same and opposite gender, overnight guests, etc.)?
What kind of roommates do you want to be (acquaintances, close friends, respectful to each other but don’t need to be friends, etc.)?
What day are you moving in? If one person is moving in earlier than the other, what should they do in setting up the room space (wait to arrange the room when both are there, separate it in half, arrange the room how you both would like, etc.)?
What items do you plan on bringing (rugs, appliances, futons, etc.)? Do you want to share items?

Roommate Conflict Resolution

Most conflict situations that occur between individuals are a result of a misunderstanding or a lack of communication. It is important to realize that direct communication about the issues of concern can result in a mutually agreed alternative.

Within any living environment, conflict situations may arise between individuals sharing the same space. If you and your roommate are in conflict, it is important that you accept initial responsibility to discuss your concerns and reach an amiable solution. Follow these steps in dealing with conflict with your roommate:

Roommates should discuss their differences with each other and try to reach a compromise.
If a compromise or mutually acceptable agreement cannot be reached, a roommate should contact the Resident Assistant (RA). The RA will request individual meetings with all roommates to obtain information regarding the dispute. The RA may respond in the following manner:
1. Establish a meeting with the roommates to discuss alternatives and possible expectations that would lead to a resolution.
2. Refer the issue to the Residence Hall Coordinator (RHC) for discussion.

Despite attempts to maintain agreed upon expectations, some roommate conflicts may result in an unacceptable outcome for either roommate. If a roommate conflict, not involving a confirmed violation of Residence Hall policy, is unresolved, The RHC will assume responsibility for completing a room change. This change is done at the discretion of the RHC.
