MONTGOMERY, Ind. – Sophomore Jacob English finished third and freshman Matt Jordan tied for fourth as the Vincennes University men’s golf team placed second at the Vincennes Spring Invitational played at Country Oaks Golf Club Saturday and Sunday.

The Trailblazers shot a team total of 57-over-par 633. After firing a 316 in the first round, they attempted to mount a rally in the final round, but shot a 317.

“We had an opportunity to come back (Sunday),” Vincennes University Men’s Golf Coach Dennis Chattin said. “At the time we were able to do that, we would double bogey a hole and set ourselves back. We couldn’t quite overcome that deficit, but we are still getting better. We just haven’t put four solid scores together to make a good team score yet.”

English led the way for the Trailblazers. He finished 10-over par. His 36-hole total was 154. He fired a 4-over-par 76 in the final round after opening with a 78 in the first round.

“Jake English had another good performance, placing third in the tournament,” Chattin said. “I was real pleased with that effort.”

Jordan carded a 79 in the final round after opening with a 78 for a two-day total of 157.

Sophomore Zach Hall tied for sixth place. He shot back-to-back 79s for a 158.

Sophomore Joe Allbright placed 12th with a total of 165 (82-83).

Freshman Cole Palmer finished in a tie for 13th, shooting 167 (81-86).

Rend Lake’s Jack Pring won the individual title on the second hole of a sudden death playoff over teammate Nate Neal. They finished regulation tied at 149.

Rend Lake won the team title with a score of 612 (304-308) followed by the Trailblazers (633), Oakland City (653) and Lincoln Trail (673).

Next up for the Trailblazers is the Indiana Small College Championships at The Donald Ross Course at French Lick Resort April 13-14.

“That will be a really good test particularly of our short game and putting because that’s the way his courses are designed,” Chattin said. “We also play our region tournament there, so it is a good opportunity for us to get to see the golf course an extra time.”
