VU Provost Dr. Laura Treanor honored with American Council on Education Leadership Award

VINCENNES, Ind. - Dr. Laura Treanor, the Provost of Vincennes University, has been recognized for her outstanding leadership skills and has been honored for her remarkable ability to inspire and support other women in higher education leadership positions.

Dr. Laura Treanor with leadership award.Treanor received the American Council on Education Women’s Network of Indiana (ACE-WIN) Distinguished Woman Leader Award on Feb. 23. She was honored at the ACE-WIN annual conference in Indianapolis.

ACE Women's Network is a national organization that mobilizes the higher education community to shape effective public policies and foster innovative, high-quality practices. The Distinguished Woman Leader award is the highest honor the IN ACE Network presents and recognizes Treanor's contributions to providing extraordinary inclusive leadership and advocacy both within her institution and across the state of Indiana.

Treanor is a prominent advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion in higher education and other areas. She inspires innovation and inclusivity by demonstrating a commitment to societal progress within and beyond Vincennes University. 

Upon recognition of the distinguished award, the ACE-WIN State Co-Director said, "I am deeply honored and humbled to receive this award. It is a privilege to have been selected from among such accomplished women leaders in higher education." Treanor stated that the award is a testament to the many people who have supported and inspired her in her leadership journey including "...coaches, teachers, supervisors, colleagues and all the individuals that I have had the true privilege of leading including the faculty and staff of Vincennes University."

VU President Dr. Chuck Johnson shared his thoughts on the importance of this honor, “Dr. Treanor is truly deserving of this award. She is a thoughtful and collaborative leader who challenges and inspires herself and those around her to pursue excellence. Her accomplishments resonate not only within VU and not only for women but serve as an example for aspiring higher education leaders everywhere.”  

Treanor is Provost and Sr. Vice President of Instruction Services/Dean of Faculty. She was named the Provost of VU in June of 2018. Her previous roles have included System Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness, Vice President for Academics, Chief Academic Officer, Dean, and Professor. She earned a Bachelor of Science at Virginia Tech University, a Master of Arts at The Ohio State University, and a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Virginia Tech University.
