Professor Eric Doane is the Chair of the Conservation Law Enforcement Program at Vincennes University. Before taking the position at Vincennes University, Professor Doane served as an Indiana Conservation Officer for more than 28 years. In 2015 he was promoted to corporal and became a field supervisor to the officers in District 7.

During his career, Corporal Doane served on many specialty teams for the IDNR Law Enforcement Division. These teams included Scuba, Peer Support, Cave Rescue, Wildland Firefighting, Field Training Officer, Search and Rescue, Firearms and Patrol Rifle Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, and Use of Force Instructor. In addition, he attended more than 50 specialty schools.

During his career as an Indiana Conservation Officer, Corporal Doane was recognized for exemplary service on multiple occasions, including receiving the division’s three highest honors.  In 2008, Corporal Doane was the recipient of the James Pitzer Indiana Conservation Officer of the Year Award. He also received the William J. Nattkemper Brotherhood Award in 2017, and the Director’s Leadership Award in 2018.  He was also selected as a District Officer of the Year four times as well as the Indiana Hunter Education Instructor of Year.

Professor Doane is a graduate of Vincennes University, the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, Indiana Conservation Officer Recruit Schools and the Police Executive Leadership Academy. Additionally, Professor Doane is a training officer and part time deputy with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
