Nursing Information and Announcements
The Vincennes University Department of Nursing has several pathways that help students
achieve their goals to becoming a nurse.
Great nurses start at VU!
in Nursing Program
Practical Nursing is an 11 month program (August-July) that begins every fall. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN to obtain licensure as a a licensed practical nurse (LPN). LPNs have two options to transition to become eligible to take the NCLEX-RN to earn licensure as a registered nurse (RN). We offer an on campus ASN Completion Concentration for LPNs and an LPN-BSN Completion that is offered in a hybrid format.
The Associate of Science in Nursing Program is a two year AS Degree that begins every Fall (August). Graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN to earn licensure as a registered nurse (RN). Registered nurses are eligible to apply to our online RN-BSN Program to earn a Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN).
How to Apply
Applicants need to apply to Vincennes University at www.vinu.edu/apply. Once an applicant has been admitted to Vincennes University and all transcripts
and/or applicable test scores are on file, a secondary application must be completed
at www.vinu.edu/hsapp.
The selection process for Vincennes University's Nursing Programs are based on the premise that student selection is vital to the development and maintenance of a strong program. The standards of selection will also contribute to the quality of care administered by graduates of the programs. In order to successfully complete the programs, students must be highly motivated and have an academic background sufficient to cope with the curriculum. Compliance with all criteria does not guarantee acceptance to the program. Applicants will be evaluated based on the following point system. Applicants should consult the Vincennes University catalog at www.vinu.edu/catalog for a complete listing of the admission criteria.

RN-BSN Tuition Deferment Information
Email Communication
The Nursing Department typically sends communications to students using the email
address that is provided on the secondary application. Since email has been adopted as a primary mechanism for sending official communications
to students, students must check email regularly in order to read important messages and notifications. Certain communications may
be time-sensitive. Failure to read official university communications sent to the
students does not absolve students from knowing and complying with the content of
those official communications. Students must also ensure that there is sufficient
space in their e-mail inboxes to allow email to be delivered and received. Be sure
that emails are not being sent to your junk mail/SPAM.
Essential Skills/Functions
To enter into and to complete the nursing programs, nursing students, with or without reasonable accommodations, must be able to meet certain emotional, cognitive, and physical requirements. Please click here to learn more about essential skills and functions.
Criminal History and Drugs Screening Policy All applicants for the ASN, Practical Nursing, and LPN-BSN Programs must submit a criminal history and drug screening if selected for admission to the program. Please review the current policy.
