Vincennes University announces Financial Services staffing changes
July 29, 2019
VINCENNES, Ind. – Staffing changes are coming to the Vincennes University Financial Services Department as it transitions through the loss of Vice President for Financial Services and Government Relations Phil Rath.
Vincennes University has announced longtime employees Linda Waldroup, Tim Eaton, and Conya Wampler will move to new positions effective July 29.
Waldroup is assuming the role of Vice President of Financial Services. Eaton will become the Associate Vice President of Financial Services and Budget Director. Wampler is being promoted to Controller.
“As we continue to mourn the passing of Phil Rath, we must also continue to carry on the work of the institution he dearly loved. VU’s Financial Services area has many talented and highly-experienced individuals willing to step up in support of our important mission. The tenure of these individuals and many others in Financial Services speaks volumes about the great leadership that Phil provided to VU for more than 35 years,” Vincennes University President Chuck Johnson said.
Staffing and structure needs of the Financial Services area will undergo evaluation by Waldroup and her team in the coming weeks. The University is currently reviewing options for restructuring and staffing the Government Relations role. There will be an announcement regarding those plans in the near future.
Given their wealth of experience and knowledge, Waldroup, Eaton and Wampler will enable Financial Services to continue moving forward.
Board of Trustees Chair John Stachura expressed it “will be a very easy transition”.
“As a board member and chair, I have had the pleasure for five years of sitting in with the Indiana State Board of Accounts during audits. I’ve attended every entrance interview, every exit interview, and over that course of time I have been involved with everybody in our Financial Services and they are outstanding. Every time there has been a clean bill of health. Our group gets compliments on how easy they make the State Board of Accounts’ job,” Stachura said.
He credits Rath for developing the office’s commendable reputation.
“We definitely will miss Phil Rath, but as a compliment to him he built an outstanding and capable staff. You can look at their resumes and what they’ve accomplished as far as their education and you can look at how long they’ve served at VU. They (Waldroup, Eaton, and Wampler) will do an outstanding job,” Stachura said.
Waldroup has provided an impressively long service to the University that spans more than four decades. She currently serves as VU’s Associate Vice President for Financial Services and Controller and oversees the University’s accounting functions, including payroll, investments, debt service, purchasing, risk management, and accounts payable. She is also responsible for Student Financial Aid, Bursar, and Bookstore areas. Waldroup has been greatly involved in the development of VU’s Primary Care Center.
She began her career VU in 1976. Waldroup is also a VU graduate. She earned her associate degree in accounting. She has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from University of Southern Indiana and an MBA from Ball State University.
“I am honored to have this opportunity to continue working with the talented Financial Services team to accomplish the vision Vice President Rath had for Vincennes University,” Waldroup said. “As an alum I am passionate about VU and I am eager to accept this new challenge to further the mission of the University.”
Eaton has been at VU since 1989. In 2000, he moved in to his position as Budget Director. He possesses extensive knowledge of VU’s financial performance in many areas and is well acquainted with programming and activities that drive the budgets. He will continue to play an important role in VU’s pursuit of state funding, including the biennial capital and operating budget requests.
Eaton obtained a bachelor’s degree in finance from Indiana University. He received an MBA from Ball State University.
Wampler’s current position is Director of Accounting. She handles all of VU’s financial reporting, grant accounting, internal controls and auditing processes, and works closely with external auditors. She arrived a VU in 2004, bringing with her 14 years of administrative accounting experience in the healthcare industry.
