An artist talk and reception will take place with Sheffield and Tyree on February 28, 11 a.m. (EST), in the gallery. The exhibition will run through March 15.

Admission to the Gallery, and to the reception, is free and the public is invited to attend.

The Shircliff Gallery of Art is located in the Shircliff Humanities Center, Room A103, at the corner of First and Harrison streets. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 12-4 p.m. Sundays.

Vincennes University’s Art and Design Department offers associate degrees in fine art, graphic design, art education, and pre-art therapy. Information can be found online at vinu.edu/art-and-design.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

“Synthesis” is a two-person exhibition that takes on two distinctly different forms of collage work. The Collective Glitch investigates the idea of a collective image. Each is digitally created by utilizing photographs provided by “a collective.” The collective is comprised of 15 individuals from ages 20-70 from different geographic locations and socio-economic backgrounds. Tyree’s newest work utilizes millennial tweets letterpress printed by hand. She combines new communication with old technology. Together these works create a synthesis that transcends time and culture.

H Jennings Sheffield a contemporary artist working in lens based media, video, and sound. She received her BFA from the Atlanta College of Art and her MFA from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her current work investigates the idea of collective imagery through re-appropriation. She is an internationally active artist with her latest work exhibited at The Print Center in Philadelphia; Houston Fine Art Fair; Colorado Photographic Arts Center; Orange County Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Ana, CA; B J Spoke Gallery in Huntington, New York; Lens Culture; Artspace 111 in Fort Worth, Texas; Colorado Photographic Arts Center; B J Spoke Gallery in Huntington, New York; Newspace Center for Photography in Portland, Oregon; Living Arts of Tulsa; Pingyao International Photography Festival in China; McDonough Museum of Art in Youngstown, Ohio; Cambridge University (UK), and What Do You Really Need, Medien Kultur Haus Wels, Austria.

Natalie Tyree is an assistant professor of graphic design at Western Kentucky University. An active educator, designer, and maker, she seeks to explore popular culture themes in her work related to contemporary trends and generational mindsets in this media and influencer obsessed world we find ourselves in. An "old millennial," her most recent work and research centers specifically on Millennials and Generation Z and her mission to de-mystify and mock pre-conceived notions of those generations.
