Class of 2024 Graduate Spotlight: Lyndsey Carrico, Education – Science and Chemical
Sciences
December 13, 2024
Lyndsey Carrico's inspiring educational journey proves her resilience and determination. She proudly walked across the stage at the 2024 Mid-Year Commencement and received not one, but two degrees: a bachelor's in Education - Science and an associate in Chemical Sciences.
Her path to this impressive accomplishment was far from straightforward. This spectacular moment was the culmination of a 10-year educational journey.
Lyndsey began studying at VU in 2014, but after switching majors, stepping away for a couple of years, and focusing on parenthood, she discovered her true calling: education, specifically science education.
She re-enrolled at VU in 2021 and immediately excelled, earning recognition on the Dean's List in her first semester.
Captivated by the intricate details of how substances interact and change, she has a burning passion for Chemical Sciences. She is equally enthusiastic about education.
As Lyndsey steps into her teaching career, she looks forward to sharing her enthusiasm for science with young minds and inspiring them to explore the wonders of chemistry as she has.
Her achievement is a powerful example of perseverance and the pursuit of one's passions, no matter the challenges along the way.
Below, Lyndsey reflects on her educational journey, shares her career aspirations, what makes her a Trailblazer, and more.
Why did you choose to attend VU?
“I chose to attend Vincennes University because it is close to home and best suits my needs and those of my family. VU’s supportive environment and flexible opportunities made it the perfect choice, allowing me to pursue my goals while balancing the responsibilities of being a parent. Returning to school as a parent was not without its challenges, but Vincennes University made it possible. VU’s inclusive, adaptable approach allowed me to further my education while continuing to prioritize my family.”
Why did you choose to earn a bachelor’s degree in Science Education?
“Teaching allows me to not only share my love of chemistry and science but also inspire young minds to think critically, ask questions, and explore the world with curiosity and wonder. My ultimate goal as a science educator is to leave a lasting, positive impact on the lives of my students and spark their interest in learning.”
What are your plans after graduation?
“After graduating from VU, I plan to teach in a public school in Vincennes. I am eager to give back to my community and help shape the young minds of this area. Being a part of my students’ educational journeys - watching them grow, develop confidence, and find their paths - is what drives me to succeed.”
What have been your best experiences at VU?
“My best experiences at VU have been the relationships I have built. Knowing I could rely on my professors for guidance and my classmates for camaraderie made my time here unforgettable. These connections have not only enriched my education but will also stay with me for a lifetime.”
What makes you a Trailblazer?
“Being a Trailblazer means being a pioneer - someone who leads the way for others. For me, that means embracing change, motivating others, and guiding them toward success. My ability to adapt to challenges, lead with compassion, and inspire those around me has defined my journey. VU has not only helped me grow as a student but also as a leader and a role model for my family and my future students. For anyone who thinks it is too late to return to school or worries that juggling education and parenting is too much, I want to say this: “It is never too late to follow your dreams. Vincennes University provides a welcoming and supportive environment, and it can be the perfect starting point for anyone looking to change their life for the better.”
