JASPER, Ind. - Students from nine area high schools participated in an Internship Tour of local industries on March 19. The tour was hosted by the Vincennes University Jasper Campus to familiarize the students with local manufacturing and prepare them for work-learn internship placements.

The Career Advancement Partnership (CAP) program is for seniors and recent graduates from a number of different school corporations. This work-learn postsecondary program allows students to earn an associate degree in electronics technology with an emphasis on technical maintenance as well as gain valuable work experience through internships.

Students enrolled in the Automation and Robotics Academy (ARA) are current sophomores and juniors representing all four Dubois County schools. This program allows students to earn up to 16 college credits while in high school which stack directly into a certificate in industrial technology.  The program can also lead into the CAP program to earn an associate degree or a bachelor’s degree in general technology.

The tour hosted 44 students from nine high schools, including Corydon, Dubois, Forest Park, Heritage Hills, Jasper, Owensboro, Perry Central, Southridge, and Springs Valley.

The Internship Tour provided an opportunity for the students to visit Jasper Engines, Indiana Furniture, Kimball Electronics, Kimball International, and MasterBrand.

"We are truly committed to the work-learn approach to education and with connecting students with great local job opportunities - from day one," said Christian Blome, dean of the VU Jasper Campus.
