VINCENNES, Ind. - With the temperatures outside falling Wednesday night, the Vincennes University women’s basketball team could not get any shots to fall inside the P.E. Complex.

The Lady ‘Blazers misfired on 10 of their 12 shots from the floor falling behind No. 6 Wabash Valley 29-8 after the first quarter of play.

The visiting Warriors kept the pressure the entire game as VU fell 89-62.

The loss drops VU to 12-5 on the season and 6-1 inside District P play, while the Lady Warriors move to 18-0 overall.

“The problem tonight is they just beat us up and down the court,” VU coach Harry Meeks said. “They beat us on the boards too. They would get offensive rebounds and lay it right back in.”

Fess Hawkins finished with a double-double as the freshman scored 12 points and pulled down a game-high 11 boards.

Wabash led 44-22 at the break and the Lady ‘Blazers could pull no closer the rest of the game.

“I told the girls before the game this would be the toughest game of the year and that is exactly how it turned out to be,” Meeks said. “Wabash is a very outstanding team, now we just need to get back to work and just work on our fundamentals and get back to doing what we are supposed to do.”

Jaynice Stovall and  Ivanda Hudjakova added joined Hawkins in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively.

Wabash Valley had five players in double figures led by Keya Patton’s 15 points off the bench.

The Warriors also rebounded VU, 46-36.

“We will break this down starting tomorrow and get back after it,” the Trailblazers coach stated. “But I tell you what, we will not quit. We will look forward to going to Wabash and playing these guys again in a few weeks.”

The Trailblazers return to the court on Saturday against another district foe, John A. Logan. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. inside the P.E. Complex.
