VINCENNES, Ind. - The Vincennes University Foundation is pleased to announce that Aarika McKinsey, a 2015 Southmont High School graduate, is the recipient of the 2017-18 Erika Norman Memorial Scholarship at Vincennes University.

McKinsey is a full-time student pursuing a VU degree in Law Enforcement. She was recommended for the scholarship based on references indicating her outstanding work ethic and dedication to her chosen career path.

Erika Norman, a 1996 graduate of Southmont High School, died as a victim of a fatal attack at the age of 21. While at Vincennes University, she was a member of Alpha Theta Chi Sorority and a Foreign Languages major. The scholarship in her name was established by her parents, Elaine A. Norman-Conrad and Kenneth D. Norman. As Erika enjoyed Vincennes University and Knox County, her parents stipulated that the recipients of the scholarship be from either Montgomery County or Knox County.

Erika is remembered for her love of being a college student at Vincennes University. That love is carried forward to the students who receive the scholarship. “It is our honor to help preserve the memory of Erika Norman, and grant the scholarship bearing her name to Aarika McKinsey of Ladoga, Indiana,” stated Marty Baker, scholarship coordinator for the VU Foundation.
