WFYI Indianapolis and Chalkbeat Indiana highlighted Vincennes University Early College partner schools Ben Davis University and Area 31 Career Center in a story discussing how VU is helping Indianapolis-area students earn college credit in high school.

Students like BDU junior Gift Akintomide in the VU Early College program get a jump start on their college education while still attending high school.

"The Vincennes University Early College model not only provides quality rigorous college coursework for high school students, but VU also provides on-site support for administrators and students," VU Associate Provost of K-12 Programs and Partnerships Dr. Lori Pence said. "Students receive additional advising and guidance regarding college and careers as well as access to learning coaches and tutors."

Akintomide is earning a high school diploma and a VU associate degree in Information Technology at the same time. She told WFYI Indianapolis if you collaborate with teachers to understand the college coursework, “you will excel."

VU is a statewide leader in dual credit and career and technical education. The University offers two options for high school students: Early College and Project EXCEL. Project EXCEL, Indiana's first dual credit/concurrent enrollment program, offers college credit for only $25 per credit hour to eligible high school students who enroll in VU courses offered at their local high school or career center.

"Dual credit allows K-12 and higher education to partner together regarding college and career readiness in Indiana to provide a seamless transition from high school to college and careers," Pence said.
