Miss VU Scholarship Pageant to celebrate 52nd year on Nov. 9

VINCENNES, Ind. - The Miss Vincennes University Scholarship Pageant will celebrate its 52nd anniversary on Nov. 10, 8 p.m. (EST), at the Red Skelton Performing Arts Center.  Among the performers will be Miss Indiana Haley Begay, Pittsboro, who will sing “For Good” from the musical “Wicked.”

Indiana’s longest consecutively running pageant, the Miss VU Scholarship Pageant is a preliminary step toward the Miss Indiana title whose winner is then eligible to participate in the Miss America Scholarship Pageant. In addition to the contestants, 40 VU students are involved in this year’s production.

Each of the 11 semi-finalists will participate in five areas of competition:  private interview conducted prior to the pageant, on-stage question, lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit, evening wear, and talent.  In addition, each will present information about her platform - a socially significant issue or cause on which she works to raise public awareness.

Joining the Miss VU contestants on stage will be Miss VU 2017 Ashley Green and 25 Miss VU Princesses, ranging in age from 6 to 11 years.  Emcees for the event will be VU students Corbin Barrasas, Hobart, and Holly Bittner, Haubstadt, who is the reigning Miss Gibson County.

Tickets are now on sale at the Skelton Center Box Office and cost $10 for adults and $5 for seniors, non-VU students, and children. The Box Office phone number is 812-888-4039.

VU students with ID are admitted free and a Pack-the-Balcony feature of the pageant will allow those seated in the balcony to vote for their favorite contestant.
