No. 2 Trailblazers improve to 23-1

VINCENNES, Ind. – Sophomore George Dixon put together another double-double performance with 14 points and 11 rebounds in a 70-57 victory for the Vincennes University men’s basketball team over Region 24 opponent Kaskaskia on Saturday.
The No. 2 Trailblazers found themselves down by one at halftime after Kaskaskia shot
52 percent from the floor including hitting on 6 of 11 from beyond the arc inside
the P.E. Complex.
The Trailblazers were trying to get the backcourt duo of Dixon and Lony Francis, Jr.
involved offensively early. With the sophomore tandem combining for 14 of the Trailblazers’
32 points, with freshman Kevin Osawe and sophomore Kevin Kangu adding five points
each in the first 20 minutes of action.
After the intermission, the Blue Devils continued to trade baskets with the Trailblazers, with VU only able to net a two-point lead at the first media timeout. After the timeout though, the Trailblazers went on a 9-0 scoring run. The Blazers defense held off the Kaskaskia attack, only allowing five points in the final 4:45 of the game. A timely offensive putback by Francis and two free throws by sophomore Keith Clemons sealed the victory.
Francis finished the game as the Trailblazers’ leading scorer with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Freshmen guards Craig Porter and Kevin Osawe followed Francis and Dixon with 9 and 8 points respectively, with Porter adding 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks.
VU held firm atop the Region 24 standings with a 23-1 record, while the Blue Devils drop to 16-8 on the season.
VU will return to the court on Wednesday in a Region 24 rivalry game against Lincoln Trail. Tip-off with follow the Lady Trailblazers game and is set for 7 p.m. EST.
