Trailblazer track and field holds own against NCAA Division I field

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Vincennes University men’s track and field team produced seven top-eight finishes against NCAA Division I competition at the Lenny Lyles/Clark Wood Invitational hosted by the University of Louisville on Friday and Saturday.

Freshman Silas Ristl stood out in two throwing events. He placed third in the seeded shot put finals, throwing 58-9 ½ (17.92m). Ristl finished fourth in the seeded discus finals with a throw of 156-10 (47.8 m).

Sophomore Tony Cappola was the runner-up in the open pole vault. He vaulted 14-2 ½ (4.33m).

The Trailblazers’ 4x400 relay squad placed sixth in the finals. Freshman Milan Todorovic, freshman David McCullough, sophomore Cambrin Dixon and freshman Zach Allen combined for a time of 3:21.34.

Freshman Jaien Webster took sixth place in the 110 hurdles finals. He crossed the finish line in 14.61 seconds.

Freshman Josh Kinser finished seventh in the open hammer event with toss of 151-6 (46.19m).

Sophomore James Smith earned an eighth-place finish in the open discus finals, throwing 136-11 (41.73m).

In the women’s competition, sophomore Jazzmine Poole placed 11th in the open discus. Her best throw was 137-2 (41.80 m).

The Trailblazers will compete next on May 3 in the Billy Hayes Invitational at Indiana University. The meet will give them a chance to fine tune as they prepare for the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 16-18 in Hobbs, New Mexico.

VU goes into the meet with high expectations. The Trailblazers are ranked 19th in the latest NJCAA Division I Men’s Outdoor Track and Field national rankings.
