Trailblazer track and field ready for NJCAA Outdoor Championships

VINCENNES, Ind. – Vincennes University student-athletes will compete in 10 events at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 16-18 at Ross Black Track in Hobbs, New Mexico.

The men’s team, which was No. 19 in the final NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field national rankings, is represented in the running and throwing events.

VU freshman Silas Ristl is seeded third in the men’s shot put with a mark of 17.92 meters. At the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in March, Ristl placed third in the shot put.

Ristl has also qualified in the discus. He is the No. 9 seed with a throw of 48.97 meters.

The Trailblazers will also have representation in another throwing event. Freshman Josh Kinser is entered in the hammer throw. He is seeded 13th with a 46.19 throw.

Freshman Maxwell Kiplagat is ranked sixth out of 29 runners in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:25.31.

He is also a member of the qualifying 4x800 relay team. VU is seeded sixth in the event. Freshman Milan Todorovic, Kiplagat, sophomore Seth Vaquero and freshman David McCullough combined to clock the seed time of 7:42.46.

The Trailblazers finished seventh in the 4x800 relay at the indoor national meet earlier this year.

McCullough, Todorovic and Vaquero are all entered in the 800 run. McCullough is seeded 20th with a time of 1:54.39. Todorovic is the No. 24 seed (1:54.88) and Vaquero is the No. 25 seed (1:54.98).

In the pole vault, sophomore Tony Cappola ranks seventh with a height of 4.60 meters.

Freshman Jaien Webster is seeded ninth in the 110 high hurdles with a qualifying time of 14.29 seconds.

The VU women’s team qualified two individuals.

Sophomore Jazzmine Poole will compete in the discus. She is ranked 12th with a throw of 41.80 meters.

Sophomore Elizabeth Bredeweg is a qualifier in the 10,000-meter run.
