Trailblazers compete on the track

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Vincennes University men's and women's track and field teams opened the indoor season over the weekend at the University of Indianapolis Collegiate Challenge.

Team scores were not scored during the meet, but a handful of ‘Blazer athletes came home with some medals.

Milan Todorovic, who earned All-American honors during cross country season, came away with a first-place finish in the men’s 800 meters. Todorovic was clocked with a time of 1 minute,58.58 seconds. He was the only competitor for break the 2-minute barrier.

Todorovic also teamed up with David McCullough, Cambrin Dixon and Morne Scharnick for a seventh-place finish in the 1,600 meter relay. The quartet finished with a time of 3:36.12.

Alfred Stubbs had a successful day in the throws. Stubbs finished second in the weight throw (17.10 meters) and fifth in the shot put (15.11 meters).

James Smith earned a fifth-place medal in the weight throw (15.49m), while Eddie Garcia finished 14th in the shot put (12.97m).

Jaien Webster finished second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.24 seconds, while Tyland Sheard finished seventh in the 60.

Zach Allen recorded a time of 52.53 seconds as he finished fifth in the 400, and Max Kiplagat finished 13th in the 3,000.

Tony Cappolo and Steven Hogan placed sixth and 10th, respectively in the pole vault. Cappolo cleared 4.25m, while Hogan’s best was 3.65m.

For the women, Taylin Brandenberger, Liz Bredeweg, Kaylee Lange and Heaven Kirksey teamed up for an eighth-place finish in the 1,600 relay. The team recorded a time of 4:36.89.

Brandenberger finished 11th in the 400 with a time of 1:03.46 and Bredeweg placed 14th in the 3,000 (11:56.96).

Jazzmine Poole finished 10th in the shot put (11.47m) and 23rd in the weight throw (11.71).

The ‘Blazers are expected to take a split squad to compete at Indiana University this weekend, and the full team will compete back in Indianapolis on Saturday.
