PLYMOUTH, Ind. – Vincennes University Golf Coach Dennis Chattin praised Zach Hall for his play in the final round of the NJCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championship on Friday.

“He actually played much better than the score indicates,” he said.  “A couple of shots here and there and he could have moved up quite a bit.”

Hall finished tied for 49th in a field of 132. He shot a 7-over-par 79 on the final day of play at Swan Lake Golf Resort for a four-day total of 314 strokes. South Mountain’s Leon D’Souza won the individual title by two strokes with a 284.

“Zach hits it really well and he hits the fairway,” Chattin said. “He was hitting his irons well. He just didn’t putt quite as well as he should. Today could have easily been a 74 or a 75.

“He is extremely long with his driver. On the last hole, which is a par 5, he was 199 (yards) out with his second shot. I was walking in the fairway. He was 62 yards in front of one of the guys and 45 yards in front of the other guy.”

He scored a 74, 81 and 80 in the first three rounds.

Although he opened with a triple bogey on the No. 1 hole of the final round, Hall shot a 39 on the front nine that included a birdie on the No. 5 hole.

“He had two errant shots that cost him,” Chattin said.

Friday marked the final round of Hall’s VU career.

“He represented himself well,” Chattin said. “He did a good job. He played on a national championship team last year and advanced as an individual this year. We’re really proud of him.”

Hall, who is from Linton, Indiana, finished 12th and earned All-American honors at the NJCAA Division III national tournament in 2018.
