VU scholarship available for Knox County high school students
April 12, 2018
VINCENNES, Ind. - Graduates of the four Knox County high schools - Vincennes Lincoln, Rivet, South Knox, and North Knox - are eligible for the 2018-19 William M. Bierhaus Doorway Scholarship to Vincennes University, according to Kristi Deetz, interim director of the VU Foundation.
The scholarship, established by William M. Bierhaus II in honor of his father, William M. Bierhaus, is for an incoming VU freshman who would not be able to attend college without the financial assistance of the Doorway Scholarship. The educational grant can amount to as much as $5,000 per school year for educational expenses and is intended to be awarded for two years.
To be considered for the scholarship, students must be nominated by an adult in the community - such as a high school teacher or counselor, a minister, or another community leader - who is familiar with the student, his or her academic background, community involvement, and financial need. No special application form is required; however, the student’s merits and education background should be included in the nomination letters. The writer should also indicate why the student should be considered for the scholarship.
Letters of recommendation should be sent by April 30 to the VU Foundation, 1002 N. First Street, Vincennes IN 47591.
Questions about the scholarship may be directed to the VU Foundation at 812-888-4510 or vuscholarships@vinu.edu.
