VU students earn top honors in college success competition

VINCENNES, Ind. - The Vincennes University Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) College Success Program All-Star team of Amy Young, Shania Cremeans, and Gretchen McCrary recently showed off their talent in the virtual state JAG Career Development Conference.

Amy Young, VU StudentYoung, a sophomore at the Vincennes campus, won the College Success Program state championship. The VU JAG College Success Program All-Stars competed against Ivy Tech Indianapolis and Ivy Tech Fort Wayne students. They were required to give a three- to five-minute presentation about their future career and how the VU JAG College Success Program has benefited them.

It is Young’s second JAG state championship after her win as part of the 2018 Entrepreneurship Plan Team while a senior at Pike Central High School. That makes her the first to win state championships with two different JAG programs.

Shania Cremeans, a sophomore at the Vincennes campus, finished third in the competition. This is the second time she has placed at the state CDC, the first being 2018 when she was a member of the state championship Entrepreneurship Plan Team event while she was a senior at Pike Central High School.

Gretchen McCrary, a sophomore at the Jasper campus, earned an honorable mention.

JAG is a state-based, national non-profit organization administered by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development that helps students learn in-demand employability skills and provides a bridge to post-secondary education and career advancement opportunities.

“I could not be prouder of these three young ladies,” Vincennes University JAG College Success Program Manager Shaun Brames said. “I have been absolutely blessed to have worked with them since they were all juniors at Pike Central High School. The opportunity to see them grow and succeed over the past few years is one that I treasure. All three of them truly embody every positive quality of the JAG program...hard work, integrity, and a desire to help others."
