VINCENNES, Ind. - “China Views: We Smile the Same Language,” an exhibition of images from Funing, Jiangsu, China, will run Oct. 23 through Nov. 3 at Vincennes University’s Center for Art and Design. The public is invited to an Artist Talk and Reception on Oct. 24, 5-7 p.m. (EDT).

Hours for the exhibit are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and admission is free. The Center is located at 921 N. 3rd St.

The images were taken by ten VU faculty members who spent four weeks this summer teaching conversational English in Funing. One of the faculty participants, Sheila Collett from the VU Jasper Career Programs, noted that, “We smile the same language.”

Representing multiple educational disciplines, the group was led by Dr. Zhe Ji, director of International Studies at VU. The expedition served as a cultural exchange to introduce Vincennes University to junior and senior Funing High School students in a personal and meaningful way.

In addition to Collett, faculty members included Beverly Burch, English Department; Stephen Black, Art Department; Dannette Craig, Nursing; Arthur Fields, Art Department; Virgil Franklin, Music Department; Jeff Hume, Hospitality Department; Nancy Irwin, President’s Office; Ivana Peralta, Chemistry Department; and Mary Ann Seward, Communication Department.
