Treanor Memorial Scholarship to assist future nurses

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Foundation is pleased to announce the formation of the Shelia J. Treanor Memorial Scholarship to benefit Vincennes University nursing students.

The Sheila J. (O’Donnell) Treanor Memorial Scholarship is being established by her children, Laura, Karen, Diane, Richard, Shelia, Julie, and Cathleen in loving memory of their mother who graduated from nursing school and practiced as a nurse prior to marrying. After raising a family, she returned to college as a non-traditional student to take Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) courses.

Her children state, “This scholarship is an opportunity to pay tribute to our mother for the wisdom, guidance and motivation she provided to each of us. She was a source of constant and endearing love and support and she challenged each of us to strive for excellence in all that we undertook. Her expectation was that we should endeavor to reach the fullest measure of our capabilities.”

The mission of the scholarship is to award a non-traditional need-based nursing student with exceptional work ethic, good character, and great promise. Preference should be given to a student who is pursuing a degree after having raised a family or while raising one. The recipient must be enrolled at the Vincennes Campus and must also be entering their second year of the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program while maintaining the admission and academic standards defined by the ASN program. Students can find out information on how to apply at VU Foundation scholarships page.
