MARCH 23, 2020
4:57 PM (EDT)
Dear VU Colleagues, Students, and Stakeholders,
Earlier today, Governor Eric Holcomb issued a stay at home order for the state of
Indiana that will take effect at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24 through Monday, April
6 at 11:59 p.m. The Governor has ordered all non-essential business and operations
to cease.
Vincennes University, like other higher education institutions, is considered an essential
business and has been granted an exemption to continue operations, though on a limited
basis and with appropriate social distancing protocols in place. Over the past few
weeks, we have taken actions that enable VU to quickly comply with the Governor’s
order while ensuring that VU continues to fulfill its mission.
The following university protocols are in effect:
-
Remote learning will continue through the remainder of the semester.
-
All events, including face-to-face commencements scheduled through May 16, have been
postponed or canceled.
-
VU residence halls have closed and a large percentage of residents moved out over
the weekend.
-
During the period of the Executive Order, all VU facilities in Indiana will be closed
to the public and most Vincennes University buildings will be locked and accessible
only by those with a key or valid access card.
-
In lieu of face-to face-contact, student support and business-related services will
be handled by phone, email, or other virtual means.
-
The Shake Learning Resource Center is open only to faculty, students and staff with
a valid VU ID.
-
The Old Post Bookstore is currently closed until further notice. Students and others
may make an appointment to pick up online orders or purchase items needed for courses.
Please call 812-888-4334 between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday to make
arrangements. Online orders are still being processed for shipping and pickup.
These are unprecedented times and we are encouraging all to follow Governor Holcomb’s
directive. We understand that each new announcement from the VU Executive Team about
the coronavirus situation creates new challenges for all of us. Your dedication and
flexibility in recent weeks have been inspiring and our community is now called upon
to support the goal of suppressing the spread of this virus.
Please continue to follow proper social distancing and monitor vinu.edu/coronavirus-updates for updated information and announcements.
With warmest regards and care,
Chuck
Chuck Johnson, Ph.D.
President
