Coronavirus Update - March 19 2020

MARCH 19, 2020
3:30 (EDT)

According to Knox County Health Dept., only those persons who meet the criteria for testing of suspected COVID-19 and showing signs of severe illness (such as fever and respiratory symptoms) are admitted to the hospital and COVID-19 testing is performed.

Self-isolation (up to 14 days) is recommended for those with known/possible COVID-19 exposure with mild to moderate illness.  Release of isolation is made on a case by case basis, involving your healthcare provider.

Symptoms of COVID-19 include:

  • fever
  • cough (often dry)
  • fatigue
  • shortness of breath

Conservative treatment for COVID-19 includes: Using Tylenol for fever (Ibuprofen is not recommended at this time), increasing hydration, using a vaporizer, and getting adequate rest.  If illness progresses or respiratory distress is noted, it is recommended to call your healthcare provider first, rather than showing up in the office or emergency department.

Preventing COVID-19 and other illness:

  • Wash hands frequently or use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol
  • Don't touch face (mouth, nose and eyes)
  • Avoid crowds and use social distancing of 6 ft.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces periodically
  • Cover coughs or sneezes
  • Stay home when you are sick
